About me
Hi! I am Alessandro Lo Prete.
I’m a computer engineer with a strong interest in cybersecurity and software development for complex, real-world systems. I have worked with the European Space Agency, first as an intern and currently for my Master’s thesis.
I had several experiences in agile teams working across software development, strategic management and IT:
- I led the Command and Data Handling Software Subsystem for PoliSpace’s 6U CubeSat, being responsible for embedded software development and team coordination.
- I supported NAM Studio in the development of their IT infrastructure.
- I have been a board member of JEToP, the junior enterprise of Politecnico di Torino, fostering international relationships with various partners across Europe.
Academically and professionally, I’ve built a solid understanding of various cybersecurity domains, from anomaly detection and threat modeling to low-level software exploitation techniques.
Work Experience
Cybersecurity Research Intern at the European Space Agency
As a research Intern at AGSA Lab:
- I conducted threat research for space communication networks and proposed a threat modeling process using the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
- I worked on a Docker-based emulation testbed to automate the deployment of space communication scenarios for network security testing.
I am currently working on my thesis on traffic Anomaly Detection for Delay Tolerant Networks.
Projects and Technical Experience
Semantica
Semantica is a local, semantic search engine for notes and documents. I built it to explore Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and create a smarter way to search my knowledge base. It uses FAISS and SentenceTransformers to provide semantic search over markdown notes.
6s CubeSat
12.2022-04.2024
Team Leader for the Software Subsystem (from 09.2023). Design and testing of the Flight Software for the onboard computer (Nanomind A3200). Design of mission’s mode manager. AOCS module integration.
CyberChallenge
2022
Participated to CyberChallenge in 2022. I trained in Binary Exploitation, Reverse Engineering, Web Security, and Cryptography through CTF (Capture The Flag) challenges.
NAM studio
2021-2022
I supported NAM Studio in the early-development of their IT infrastructure. This included server administration and IT-related troubleshooting.
JEToP
2018-2021
My involvement with JEToP spanned several roles and responsibilities. As an IT Consultant from 2018 to 2019, I focused on web development. Later, in my role as International Manager and Vice President from 2019 to 2020, I was engaged in strategic management, guiding the organization’s direction. Finally, I served as an advisor from October 2020 to January 2021, providing strategic consulting to further JEToP’s mission and goals.
